And we're back again. After the longest break yet. The podcast show returns with music, news and an update on why the podcast was so delayed. Life in canada has been good but busy and so I've had to put my music career ahead of everything else for the time being. I have managed to accomplish a fair amount though and I have some nice new music pieces from my studio to show you. Also we have music from Alex Gibson, Charles Green, Jef de Corte and Chris Kazmier.

This is really a comeback show so I've tried my best to make up for the years lack of podcasts with one big one. Hope you enjoy the show everyone.

Hi all,

We're back after a big break. So I've moved to Canada and started a new life .. and a new musical life. Joel Goldsmith recently approved the second part of his interview and so here it is. Along with some music demos from Starship Farragut which showcase some of my new templates for logic which shall be available soon. VSL announces the new Vienna Suite mastering plugins and have a special offer for xmas. Check out the VSL site for details. This new show is published as an m4a (aac) file rather than the standard mp3 because with m4a I can have chapter markers and artwork and all that. So I'm trying out this new format. Let me know what you think.

A terrific guy who's not only a great composer .. but a techy so we have a blast discussing such things as synths, .. equipment, .. Mix, .. and other such things, as well as his career, and his background. He talks about his work on the Star Gate TV series and his thoughts on the film industry.

Hey all,

Back from Holiday and we have yet another Podcast. It didn't actually occur to me until after I finished it that we are on show number 50 now .. seems like we should have more doesn't it :P Well this show I hope you will enjoy as me and Brian continue our discussion into virtual sample libraries and talk more about his musical work and how he likes to use his libraries. How he got into music and how he trained to get into score composition. And as a bonus Brian also gave me permission to play a piece of his music from Star Trek: Enterprise. A piece of music that really captures Brians impressive abilities as a composer.

Also on the show Christof Unterberger sends in two pieces for the composer showcase. And I give some thoughts on working with Vienna Ensemble 3 .. something I'm hoping to get into a bigger detail very soon. So I hope you all enjoy this show. The VSL Podcast - Show 49 (Interview with Brian Tyler Part I)

Hey all,

Another busy month for me yet again. Starship Farragut is starting to demand more of my attention with it's new Vignette episode. It's been really fun to work on because the music will be more song-like, than the typical score. And since it's a Vignette (Short Episode) it won't take months to finish. They're still debating over how it should begin so I have some time to brush up the rest of the music. And we're starting to push ahead with music for the new animated show. Which is quite 1970's in style. Although as you can imagine it's not the easiest thing to do those Jazzy Brass hits with a sample library designed for symphonies .. but it's coming together nicely.

Anyways, on with the show. In this months show I play the final pieces of the Podcast competition that I, for some reason I can't fathom, missed out. So Elan Hickler, Matt Gates, and Todd Jones, are played to complete this event. I show a little demo of a piece I did that uses the new VI -Upright Bass which I recently bought from VSL.

And of course it's Part I of my Interview with Brian Tyler. He talks to me about his work, his life and some of his favourite projects from the last few years. We geek out about Sci-fi and fantasy comics and generally put the musical world to rights. A terrific guy and I am really proud to have him on my show. Part II will come on the next show but it will be in July as I will be away for the month of June.

Hey everyone. So here we are again, back with Jay Chattaway for the second part of his interview with myself concerning his music career and his many projects. He lets us known some little in-secrets about the kinds of instruments used in the recording sessions for Star Trek, and also his preferred Altiverb IR sets. Also VSL release their Vienna Ensemble 3 which definitely looks like a great application for hosting the VI libraries on many different slave machines and to stream the audio back to ones host computer, only for a mere 95 euros. The Elf Fantasy Fair was a great occasion and I have some photos on the main page of my website if you fancy a look at some of the great costumes that people wore. Thanks for listening everyone.

And so after another lengthy delay the show is finally up and out again. This time with the last pieces of the VSL Podcast competition (Gilles Costard, Dacey Bell, Tanuj Tiku, and Marcel Schweder). And due to a missreading of my notes there is actually 3 more pieces from the competition yet to come, these will be shown on the next show. My template for TODD AO is released on my website so if you have Logic 8 and Altverb 6 you can try that out, if not then I have also updated my othger templates. VSL Releases the Special Edition Plus on DVD, and I'm getting my CD's ready to sell at the Elf Fantasy fair of 2008 in Utrecht, Netherlands.

Next show will be part II of the Jay Chattaway Interview, and also I shall spill the beans on the new interviews to come.

We cover a little about how he worked with the Star Trek field, and what is was like to write music for the show, how he recorded it .. and even a few tips and tricks about recording. Part II will be shown in 2 shows time, as I intend a tech topic and the remainder of the competition entries to be played on the next show.
